For the first time in Sri Lanka, The Mohan Lal Grero Foundation
and the School of the Deaf, Sri Lanka will be organising a
job fair for those afflicted with speech and hearing impairment.
The event is to be held on the 28th of September coinciding
with the International Day of the Deaf, from 8.00 am to 2.30
pm at the School of the Deaf, Ratmalana.
The job seekers at this fair will be deaf students who
have been trained in a range of skills, Chief Coordinator,
Mohan Lal Grero Foundation Job Bank, Sanath Kulatunge said.
These youngsters are proficient in various skills like
plumbing, weaving, gem cutting and tailoring and have acquired
technical knowledge like printing machine operations.
We have invited several companies to participate in
this job fair, he said, And we are expecting 12-15
companies who have specifically been invited as they have
recruited students like these in the past.
The fair will see youngsters; both girls and boys, above the
age of 18 from Deaf Schools across the island participate
in an attempt to enhance their future. These students
have acquired their training in vocational skills while they
study at these schools and now need opportunities.
The Mohan Lal Grero Foundation will be providing the stalls
and spaces free of cost to the participating firms. The job
seekers will be present with their proficiency certificates
and curriculum vitae while the organisers will provide interpreters
of sign language to facilitate communication.
Any firm which can offer jobs to these youth with special
needs are invited to attend the fair. They can contact Kulatunge
at 4873533 or 0785844337 or by e-mail- mlgf_jobbank@yahoo.com\
The Mohan Lal Grero Foundation has successfully conducted
job fairs in the past, the last one at Lyceum International
being conducted with 82 firms. Depending on the success of
this special job fair the foundation will consider turning
it into an annual event, Kulatunge said.
