Cinergix Research first Lankan entrepreneur to launch in Silicon Valley

Cinergix Research Pvt. Ltd. launched ‘Creately’ at the DEMOfall 08 (San Diego, USA) and TechCrunch50 (San Francisco, USA) conferences in September 2008.

Creately is an online software application that is billed to revolutionise how businesses can collaborate seamlessly on diagrams, flowcharts, business processes and more with customers and colleagues over the Internet. This is the first time a Sri Lankan company has launched a product at the prestigious DEMO and TechCrunch50 events in the US.

Cinergix’s Creately software makes design work easier in two key ways. It leverages intelligent ‘Knowledge Objects’, which have been titled KObjects. KObjects are building blocks for the design that are akin to ‘plug-and-play’ hardware devices; so users can easily incorporate them into designs. Second, Creately supports collaborative design. Coupled with its intuitive user interface, Creately allows non-expert users to solve complex design problems by collaborating online with their co-designers from around the world.

For the past 18 years, DEMO has been the launch pad for companies like Palm, Java, E*Trade, Salesforce.com and Skype. Twice a year, DEMO handpicks 70 companies from more than 1000 applicants based on their unique positioning and the potential to impact the technology market. TechCrunch50, started in 2007, has gathered a strong reputation in the Internet start-up sphere. This year, they received 1200 entries; of which less than 100 were selected for the event. The product’s, ease of use and community focussed approach were behind Cinergix’s success at both these events.

“Being chosen for these events was a real honour. Being a startup from Sri Lanka, this really shows that our product is truly exceptional and innovative to have beaten thousands of other companies from around the world to be represented at such prestigious events”, says Chandika Jayasundara, CEO and co-founder of Cinergix.

With its headquarters in Melbourne, Australia Cinergix chose Colombo for its R&D operations due to the availability of skilled IT professionals and the positive business environment that has enabled the company to maximise its investments in Sri Lanka. “Although Sri Lanka, with the right mix of policies and skilled resources, is an ideal location to run our R&D operations, it is still surprisingly a challenge to find the right talent to work for a young start-up like Cinergix.” says Jayasundara. “We can learn a lot from the Silicon Valley where the culture of innovation is very strong, and both entrepreneurs and employees alike are willing to take risks to build exciting companies around innovative products.”

With its success in the US, the Cinergix team is now expanding its operations in Colombo with plans to double its engineering and creative staff over the coming months.
