Foreign Employment Bureau raids recruiting agency

By Lakna Paranamanna
The Foreign Employment Bureau (FEB) raided a recruiting agency in Maradana yesterday, which issued stolen visas and sent underage people abroad for employment.

Time Asia; the recruiting agency in question, had been sending employees to Middle Eastern countries including Kuwait and Qatar, and is supposed to be registered under the labour licence number 1800 in the FEB. “This should be considered as a grave matter, because when agencies that are registered and authorised commit scandals of this manner, we cannot ask the public to have faith in the authorities,” remarked FEB Chairman Kingsley Ranawaka.

The agency has allegedly attempted to send an underage employee abroad, who is speculated to be around 15. “The underage employee has admitted the fact that she is underage and that she attempted to go abroad using a false visa,” added Ranawaka. The investigations are continuing under the supervision of Ranawaka.
