Lyceum Nugegoda u-17 cager champs
The Inter-International Schools u-17 boys basketball
championship 2008 was held from September 30 to October
29 and was conducted and organised by Colombo International
School, Colombo, with 12 schools participating.
Lyceum International School Nugegoda achieved victory
in the group matches against Alethea International School
and Gateway College Colombo. In the quarterfinals Lyceum
International School Nugegoda had a comfortable win
over Lyceum International School Wattala.
In the first semi-final the defending champions Colombo
International School, Colombo was knocked out by Gateway
College Colombo 32 - 34. The second semi-final was a
thrilling match played between Lyceum International
School Nugegoda and Asian International School which
Lyceum International School won 46-38.
The championship final was played between Lyceum International
School Nugegoda and the British School in Colombo, on
29th October 2008. It was a nail-biting match to the
very end which kept spectators on the edge of their
seats till the final whistle blew with Lyceum International
School Nugegoda winning the championship final 42 -
38 to emerge as the International Schools Champions.
Lumal Soysa from Lyceum International School Nugegoda
was awarded the Most Valuable Player of the tournament
and team-mate Jarred Labrooy was awarded Best Offensive
Player of the tournament.
Lyceum International School Nugegodas victory
was largely due to the support given by Mrs. Kumari
Grero (coordinating principal), Asoka-.Weerasinghe (principal),
Sam Chandrasena (director ECA/PE), Roshan Gunasekera
(head coach), Niluk Dananjaya (coach), Gishan Mannage
(asst. coach) and Mrs. Vanessa Labrooy (teacher-in-charge).
