Forty
eight staff members of Commercial Bank of Ceylon, who
completed 25 years of service and 18 staff members who
retired from service this year, were honored for long
and dedicated service to the Bank at a gala award ceremony
held recently.
The ceremony themed Strength and Stability
was held at Holiday Inn Hotel with Chairman of the Commercial
Bank, Mahendra Amarasuriya as the Chief Guest.
Addressing the gathering, Amarasuriya gratefully acknowledged
the valuable work done by award winning members of staff
during past 25 years and the sacrifices their families
have made to make their work life significant.
He also focused on the changes the Bank has experienced
since these staff members joined 25 years ago. He commented
on the inevitable fact of change and the
need for the Bank not only to react when changes take
place but also to plan for and manage change pro-actively.
Since the Bank was mindful of this fact and had
the support and loyal service of the staff, the bank
achieved wonderful results, Amarasuriya said.
Among the staff who were felicitated for 25 years of
service were the current Managing Director of the Bank
Amitha Gooneratne and Deputy General Manager (International)
Jegan Durairatnam.
The Deputy Chairman of the Bank B.R.L. Fernando also
graced the occasion along with representatives of Corporate
Management and other invitees.
Established in 1969, Commercial Bank was recently named
one of the top 1000 banks of the world in terms of Tier
1 Capital and ranked 155th in the world on Soundness.
The Bank has also been adjudged Sri Lankas Bank
of the Year six times by the same magazine and
also been rated the Best Bank in Sri Lanka
for ten consecutive years by US based Global Finance
Magazine. In July 2007 the Bank was named the Best
Bank in Sri Lanka by another prestigious international
financial magazine Euromoney.
