Periyakulam captured

Troops of 59 Division captured Periyakulam village, 1km west of Otiyamalai in Mullaitivu district in the evening hours yesterday. “There have been no casualties or deaths during this capture”, Brigadier Udaya Nanayakkara stated. He added that troops are now consolidating the area.

Air Force ground troops recovered a T56 assault riffle, four magazines with 120 bullets and two anti personnel mines from Palampiddi area in Mannar, yesterday morning. Air Force Spokesman Wing Commander Janaka Nanayakkara told The Bottom Line, the LTTE had buried these military items in the jungle and were found by the Air Force through a search operations conducted in the area.

Meanwhile, 15 civilians seeking protection had arrived at the Omanthai Entry/ Exit point in Vavuniya, yesterday morning around 8.30. Military Spokesman Brigadier Udaya Nanayakkara said these fifteen civilians of five families including 13 males and two females from Nedunkerni area had come to the Omanthai Entry/ Exit point amidst heavy rains and floods.
