Trouble brews at Vavuniya hospital

Trouble is brewing at the Vauniya hospital with unions threatening a strike if an inquiry is not held against the Deputy Provincial Director (DPD) and Medical Superintendent (SP) attached to Vauniya General Hospital.

Government Medical Officer’s Association (GMOA) has requested the Health Ministry Secretary, Dr.Kahadaliyanage to hold an inquiry at the earliest possible time warning that crucial services to armed forces in Kilinochchi, Manner and Mullativu at the hospital would be suspended otherwise.

Spokesman of GMOA, Dr.Upul Gunasekara told The Bottom Line, that the consultants and doctors attached to Vauniya General Hospital have informed the GMOA in writing, stating that they are not willing to work according to the MS or DPD. “Consultants and doctors are refusing to work since the person who is in charge of them, is acting in an adverse manner,” Dr.Gunasekara said.

He also said that the doctors were complaining that the person in charge was ignoring their needs as well as ignoring the needed developments of the hospital and patient’s care.
