Dissolves SLC interim committee

Lokuge bowls out Ranatunga

By Sa’adi Thawfeeq
The interim administration of Sri Lanka Cricket under the chairmanship of Arjuna Ranatunga was dissolved by Sports Minister Gamini Lokuge yesterday bringing to an end nearly 12 months of raging controversies which has afflicted Sri Lanka cricket.

It was a move widely expected following constant difference of opinion between Ranatunga and the Sports Minister in the past six months or so. The situation came to a head after Ranatunga decided to sack 16 employees of Sri Lanka Cricket last week and they approached the Minister who ordered that no decision should be taken without first consulting him.

The Minister said the decision to dissolve the interim committee was taken as the situation at Sri Lanka Cricket demanded an immediate change.

The Minister appointed his secretary S Liyanagama to oversee the administration of Sri Lanka Cricket until such time a decision is taken whether to call for elections or to appoint another interim administration.

“We’ll take a decision within a week,” said Lokuge.
