Army makes further advances


The Army was able to capture and consolidate power in the area westwards of Kilinochchi- Paranthan yesterday while the Air Force launched seven air strikes on LTTE targets in Kilinochchi and Mullaittivu.

The Media Centre for National Security (MCNS) reported that the confrontations have inflicted heavy losses to the LTTE including a large number of casualties. Subsequently 06 dead bodies were found by the troops. The move also enabled the troops to broaden the Forward Defence Line (FDL) in the Thadduwankoddy and Komarikudakulam area.

Meanwhile Air Force fighter jet planes launched seven air strikes. They also used a MI-24 fighter helicopter in a single air strike yesterday on LTTE targets in Kilinochchi and Mullaittivu districts. The air strike in Mullaittivu South around 8.30 am was launched to support 59 Division, in Paranthan, the air strike was launched around 8.45 am in support of Task Force 01 around 9.20am, the Air Force fighter jet planes pounded on LTTE targets at Kilinochchi west in support of the 59 Division. The Task Force 01 was supported on ground by an air strike at Paranthan west around 12 noon around 12.45 noon, 59 Division was supported by an air strike by fighter jet planes at Mullaittivu South and around 1.10 pm. The Task Force 01 was assured by an air strike at Paranthan. Meanwhile MI-24 fighter helicopter pounded on LTTE targets at Mullaittivu West around 10.45 yesterday.
