BCCI, SLC restore friendly cricket ties

By M Naushad Amit
India has finally agreed to lend a helping hand to their closest neighbour with N Srinivasan, the secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) officially confirming an off-the-schedule tour to Sri Lanka at a media briefing held at Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) headquarters at Maitland Place yesterday.

“Srinivasan is here to confirm an important tour with Sri Lanka. Regardless of any forums, Sri Lanka was always with India and both countries have maintained that relationship right throughout. We are grateful to Srinivasan for offering this tour to us,” said Duleep Mendis, the CEO of SLC welcoming the secretary of BCCI.

With the confirmation of the Indian tour of Sri Lanka which consists of five One-Day-Internationals and a Twenty20 match, SLC officials have changed their stance on Indian Cricket League (ICL) players being given the nod to play domestic cricket in Sri Lanka. According to Lokuge SLC now stands firm on ICL along with their BCCI counterparts giving prominence to the Indian Premier League (IPL).

“We had fruitful discussions today (Tuesday) at the Ministry of Sports and then with the country’s President at Temple Trees. We agreed to play 5 ODIs and a T20 match with all pertaining matters being solved by the two governing bodies. SLC has agreed to release its players for the upcoming IPL tournament in April and we are to come to a long term agreement concerning the Twenty20 showpiece,” Sports Minister Gamini Lokuge told the media.
