Education Minister Susil Premajayantha yesterday said that there was a possibility that Provincial Councils would be dissolved within the next two days if the elections are to be held before April.

However, he refused to give a definitive answer regarding the date and what councils would be dissolved. Replying to questions at a press conference, Premajayantha insisted that it was impossible to confirm the media reports that have been circulating for several days which state that the remaining Provincial Councils will be dissolved today following the Cabinet briefing.

The Minister also stated that the World Bank has provided a grant of Rs.11.2 billion to rebuild schools in the North and that the reconstruction measures would begin as soon as the conflict was brought to a close.
