Hedging hedged

SC withdraws interim junctions

Adding another twist to the controversial hedging agreement, the Supreme Court (SC) yesterday decided to revoke the interim injunction against fuel hedging. The bench which comprised Chief Justice Sarath N. Silva and Justices Shiranee Thilakawardana and K. Sripvan made this decision claiming that the interim order was revoked since maintaining that injunction was pointless as the Executive neglected to carry out directives given by the SC to reduce the price of petrol.

CB says forex reserves at $ 3.9 b are sufficient

Central Bank said yesterday that the country’s total foreign reserves as at end November was at US$ 3.9 billion and they are sufficient to finance 3.3 months of imports.
