Sebastianites - Panadura SC match to be replayed

The abandoned match between hosts Sebastianites and Panadura SC in the inter-club Premier Tier B segment has to be completed by February 8 according to Sri Lanka Cricket’s tournament secretary Chandima Mapatuna.

“We held an inquiry and came to a conclusion that this match has to be completed before February 8,” Mapatuna told The Bottomline.

However when Mapatuna was asked if the match would be continued from the point play was called off he replied: “We have instructed both teams that the match should be replayed.”

Mapatuna further said that since Sebastianites are hosts they can decide on the venue for the match which will decide the Tier ‘B’ champions and the team to be relegated to the Sara Division.

“A similar incident happened at the De Zoysa Stadium pitch sometime back. I don’t think anyone will object to not replaying the match at the same venue if the pitch doesn’t suit play. The hosting team will have to decide on that,” Mapatuna added.

The crucial deciding match between Panadura SC and Sebastianites was abandoned after a huge chunk of the pitch came loose at the De Zoysa Stadium in Moratuwa last week.
