Suicidal
run out gives Royal victory
By
Samiddha Rathnayake
Royal ended Anandas winning streak defeating
the home team by 94 runs in their inter-school cricket
encounter that ended at Ananda Mawatha yesterday. It
was an absolute disaster for Ananda when their last
pair attempted an impossible run in the last ball of
the match only to end in being run out. Chasing a target
of 192 Ananda lost wickets at regular intervals. But
the last pair, Sachithra Perera and Madumal Jayarathe,
was holding the fort for quite sometime and had all
the chances to see their team end the game in a draw.
Till the last ball of the match they were offering some
sensible resistance but they failed to hold their nerve
and attempted a suicidal run off the last ball off Haroon
Mawjoods bowling. With this win Royal have six
outright wins out of their ten games while Ananda have
eight wins out of 13 matches with one loss.
