Five-match
ODI series starts at Dambulla today
Weve
learnt quite a few lessons - Mahela
Saadi
Thawfeeq reporting from Dambulla
DAMBULLA: A confident Sri Lanka team buoyed
by their stunning success in Pakistan will be looking
to extend that run when they take on India in the first
of five one-day internationals at the Rangiri Dambulla
Stadium in a day game today.
Things happened for us in Pakistan which is good.
We should try and continue that trend, said Sri
Lanka captain Mahela Jayawardene who will be looking
to avenge his teams 3-2 defeat at the hands of
India in a one-day series played not so long ago in
August last year. Between that time and now India have
played five ODIs against England and won all, while
in the same period Sri Lanka have won nine out of their
last 11 ODIs played in Zimbabwe, Bangladesh and Pakistan.
I
put the success that we had in Pakistan to the way we
successfully adapted to the tough conditions in Zimbabwe
and in Bangladesh. It was different to what we used
to play in those countries before. A lot of younger
guys put their hands up and a lot of character was shown
in our team. In different situations certain players
played really well. That gave a lot of guys the confidence
going forward, Jayawardene stated.
