Suspect in Janaka Perera killing arrested

A suspect was yesterday arrested around 5.15 a.m by Medawachchiya Police in the Siyambalagaskada area in Neriyakulam, in connection with the assassination of (Retd) Maj. Gen. Janaka Perera.

Police Spokesman SSP Ranjith Gunasekera told The Bottom Line that, the arrested suspect had brought the suicide bomber who blew himself up during a function held to declare open the new UNP office in Anuradhapura. The suicide bomber, suspected to be a resident of the Settikulam area, was brought from Settikulam up to Medawachchiya.

The arrested suspect, Abusali Jabir (21) is a resident of Neriyakulam area in Mankulam.

Late Maj. Gen. Janaka Perera’s wife and 20 others, including UNP Organiser in Anuradhapura, Dr. John Pulle and his wife were killed in the attack and over 35 injured.
