A group of nearly 1000 civilians, who were moving to safety
areas in Uddayarkattukualam, were allegedly attacked by the
LTTE yesterday.

workers attend to injured children brought to the main
hospital in Anuradapura. The military said a total of
19 people were killed and 75 wounded when Tamil Tigers
opened fire on them. The victims were among some 1,000
civilians who escaped from Tamil rebel-held territory
amid gun fire from the guerrillas who have been trying
to hold some 100,000 civilians hostage as security forces
