A
day for siblings
Pathan
brothers fashion out an Indian win
By

It was a day for siblings as the Pathan brothers
Yusuf and Irfan steered world champions India to a thrilling
three-wicket win over Sri Lanka in the first-ever Twenty20
International played in this country at the R Premadasa
Stadium yesterday.
India successfully chased Sri Lankas total of
171-4 replying with 174-7 off 19.2 overs withYusuf and
Irfan playing the stellar roles scoring 22 not out and
33 not out respectively. They simply took the game away
from Sri Lanka with a match-winning partnership of 59
off 35 balls. Yusuf actually proved to be the thorn
in the Lankan flesh as it was his off-breaks that checked
their run rate initially in the middle overs when he
picked up two wickets for 23 runs. He deservedly took
the man of the match award.
At Adelaide the Hussey brothers David (79) and Mike
(75 n.o.) won the fourth one-day international for Australia
sharing a partnership of 115 for the fourth wicket to
enable them beat New Zealand by six wickets with 10
balls to spare and keep the five-match series alive
at 2-all with one to play. One cannot say whether the
Pathan brothers were inspired by the Husseys, maybe.
