The United National Party (UNP) Working Committee has appointed Former Minister of Media Imitiaz Bakeer-Markar as the Vice Chairman of the party.

UNP Media Secretary MP Gayantha Karunathilaka told The Bottom Line that Bakeer-Markar was appointed the Vice Chairman although he was not in active politics since he left the post of MP. Karunathilake added that Former DIG Sirisena Herath was appointed as the Organiser for the Anuradhapura District.

Meanwhile, the Working Committee has decided to appoint a nomination board to select the Chief Ministerial Candidate and other candidates for the upcoming Western Provincial Council election.
