  • Rs. 10 billion in deposits withdrawn after Golden Key fiasco
  • Near Rs. 1 billion extra prudential provisioning leads to Rs. 38 m profit in 2008 (Rs. 684 million fourth quarter loss) from Rs.923 m profit in 2007
  • New management affects ‘radical transformation’ for long-term viability

The Golden Key fiasco had a telling effect on Seylan Bank which had apparently suffered a near Rs. 10 billion withdrawal in deposits whilst as a prudential move to ensure better viability the new management had also “cleaned up” the Balance Sheet.

BOC’s 2008 bottom line up 24% to Rs. 4.1 b

Bank of Ceylon (BOC) has posted a net profit of Rs. 4.1 billion in 2008, up by 24.3% over 2007.
