Third win for Carey

Inter-school under 19 cricket

Carey recorded a convincing 79-run win over Sri Rahula, Katugastota at their inter-school cricket fixture played at FTZ grounds, Katunayake. In reply to Carey’s first innings of 163, Rahulians were mesmerised by right-arm off-spinner Ashik Nazeer who captured 6 wickets for 12 runs as they were bundled out for 110. Carey declared their second essay on 156-8 leaving the visitors a target of 209 but they only managed 130. This is Carey’s third win of the season.

Thurstan held to a draw
Yashoda Lanka (77) and Irosh Samarasooriya (70) pulled Richmond out of the woods to ensure their cricket encounter against Thurstan ended in a draw at Thurstan grounds yesterday. Richmond was reeling on 4-2 overnight in their second inning after being shot out for a meagre 105 in the first innings. However Lanka and Samarasooriya resurrected their innings from 54-4 to 180-4 to bring their team to the safety zone. The only consolation for Thurstan was off-spinner Shehan Kamileen who finished with a bag of ten wickets.

Hurricane hundred by Hemakumara
Chatura Hemakumara hammered an uneaten 133 off just 127 balls including five sixes and 13 fours to place Moratu Vidyalaya on top at the end of the first day in their cricket encounter played against St. Servatius at Moratuwa yesterday.

Bens well placed
In reply to St. Sebastian’s first innings total of 224, St. Benedict’s remained in a strong position at the end of the first day of their match at Moratuwa yesterday. Both Benedictine openers Roy Sharon (52) and Varuna Fernando (33) remained unbeaten at 88-0 at stumps. Earlier Benedictine leg-spinner Dilanka Auwardt captured five St. Sebastian’s wickets for 17 runs.
