Sri Lanka slips in tourism competitiveness

Struggling to recover from war-related negative sentiments and global slowdown in travel, Sri Lanka tourism industry has got a further jolt when its ranking in competitiveness has dipped according to a new study.

In the World Economic Forum’s Travel and Tourism Competitiveness Report 2009, Sri Lanka is ranked 78, down from 73 in 2008. In the Asia Pacific regional ranking, Sri Lanka is placed at 14 with a score of 3.82 whilst the score of the top two Australia and Singapore were equal at 5.24. However these two countries ranked 9th and 10th respectively in the global rankings, in which Switzerland, Austria and Germany shared the first three slots.
