The other day I was in the mood for a meal
that was spicy, filling and fun; I didnt want
anything traditional, and I didnt want any gravy.
And where did my unusually pressing need for food lead
to? The Sandwich Factory at the Boulevard
in ODEL; a gastronomical haven for western food lovers,
where American style sandwiches are provided with a
classic Sri Lankan touch.
The 'Sandwich Factory' as the name implies doles out
sandwiches in 16 different styles and was the brainchild
of Hisham Cader who had grown tired of the insufficient
portions generally provided at local restaurants. I
was studying in the States and I got used to the American
sized portions where the sandwich is so large and filling
that you need to hold with both hands. So on the spur
of the moment, I walked into my moms kitchen,
made myself an American style sandwich and thought that
I should let other people give it a try, he explained.
And the verdict? A loyal customer base of young and
old alike who indulge in a 'Sandwich Factory' masterpieces
whenever theyre in the mood for a fulfilling meal.
Cader has brought all the glory from the land of the
Stars and Stripes through his range of sandwiches but
he now plans to add more variety to his menu by introducing
a new range of hotdogs and corndogs this March. Corndogs
which are sausages with batter around them are an ever
popular snack in the States while their new range of
hotdogs is specially made to suit the flavour of The
'Sandwich Factory'. We always try to give our
diners what we know they will like to eat, Cader
informed, We take their feedback very seriously,
and we are sure our loyal customers will love the corndogs
just as much as our sandwiches.
With classics like Philly Cheese Steak (thin strips
of marinated steak sautéed with green pepper,
onions, mushroom and topped with cheese), to the safe
and spicy Tandoori Chicken Sandwich; from the exotic
Cajun Grilled Chicken (boneless chicken breast marinated
in Cajun spices, batter-fried and grilled with extra
virgin olive oil served with a hot buffalo sauce) to
a Moroccan Style Roast Chicken (shredded roast chicken
flavoured with lemon and spices mixed with a green chilli
sauce topped off with diced cucumber and tomatoes),
The Sandwich Factorys menu is catered for a quick,
filling and absolutely satisfying dining out experience.
As for starters, the chicken and prawn popsicles drive
the little ones and the adults wild along with
the chicken wings which are always finger lickin
great.
Despite the plethora of meat dishes, however, the vegetarian
is not left out. Any of their 16 varieties of sandwiches
can be ordered with paneer (cottage cheese) as a substitute
to suit a vegetarians needs while their Vege Sandwich
is also a favourite. All of The'Sandwich Factory's gastronomical
masterpieces (yummy sandwiches) come catered to suit
the individuals ravenous state; from sandwiches
6 inches long for the ones looking for a moderate meal
(that eventually fills you up quite satisfyingly) to
12 inches (a foot) long for the more adventurous and
the extremely hungry.
Cader started The 'Sandwich Factory' adjoining his dads
Dwellings Showroom on Green Path in December 2007 and
is happy to inform his sandwich loving diners that he
plans to expand the restaurant to cater to a more relaxed
dining experience soon. However, 'Sandwich Factory'
at the ODEL Boulevard open since December 2008 is always
open for operations if you feel the urge to indulge
in some heavy duty sandwiches.
The Sandwich Factory serves 100% halal food and is open
from 11 am to 10 pm. Call 5666550 for more information
or delivery.
