What
is it about heartwarming stories of extraordinary lives
of ordinary people that capture our attention and make
us feel good about being alive? Maybe its the
faith that no matter how mundane ones life seems
to be, there is always something special you can take
out of it. Thats the story in Billu Barber,
released in Liberty Cinema the whole all March, the
poignant Bollywood movie is about an extraordinarily,
ordinary villager named Billu.
Billu (Irfan Khan), the village barber is in dire straits.
His business is in trouble with Modern Madan
and his ultramodern tints and styles taking away his
clients and creditors breathing down his neck for payment.
However, he is happy in his little world, with a loving
wife Bindiya (Lara Dutta) and two children. Life changes
dramatically when the hottest star of the day Sahir
Khan (Shah Rukh Khan), decides to choose the sleepy
village of Budbuda as the location for his film shoot.
Sahir
Khan is a movie life Shah Rukh Khan and everyone in
the village except the barber Billu, goes wild. There
is excitement and high spirits and Billus life
changes dramatically when his children reveal to the
villagers that Sahir Khan is infact, the simple Billus
friend. His life changes overnight and even though Billu
tries to avoid people who attempt to cajole him into
setting up a meeting with the great Sahir,
Billus life turns upside down. On the persistence
of his wife and children, Billu tries to meet the great
Sahir and fails miserably. The villagers who previously
hailed him as a hero turn malicious and disbelieving
until one day, at a school function just before the
shooting concludes, Sahir tells the village that all
his life, he has been searching for his great friend,
a boy who sold his possessions to help Sahir go to Mumbai
and become the star that he is. And then you wonder,
is this the humble Billu who everyone scorned and ridiculed?
Watch the movie and you will not be disappointed. Shah
Rukh Khan as Producer joins forces with Director Priyadarshan
for the first time on this venture. The music by Pritam
is catchy and stays in your head long after the movie
ends with songs like Marjaani and Youve
got me rocking and reeling.
Irfan Khans acting as usual, is brilliant and
Shah Rukh Khan cant fail to succeed as he sets
heartbeats racing playing a reel version of the real
him. Lara Dutta is the perfect choice as Billus
loving yet curious wife in a village setting that takes
you to the beautiful and simple heartland of India within
seconds. And with Deepika Padukone, Priyanka Chopra
and Kareena Kapoor providing ample glamour in Sahir
Khans movie songs throughout the film, theres
enough variety to keep the pickiest Hindi movie fan
occupied.
