The National Art Gallery in Colombo came alive with the resonance of South Asian vibrancy last week as, artists from the SAARC region displayed their creations to the public.

The 24 paintings and one photograph were a testament to the colour and diversity of the region. They were the works of 11 artists from India, four artists from Pakistan, three artists from Sri Lanka, two artists from Afghanistan and Bangladesh and one each from Bhutan, Nepal and Maldives. Anoma Wijewardene, Anup Vega and Jagath Raveendra were representing Sri Lanka through their work

The exhibition was inaugurated by Indian Minister of State for External Affairs E. Ahamed, Sri Lankan Minister of Cultural Affairs, Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena and Ministers from the SAARC nations attending the 31st Session of the SAARC Council of Ministers in Colombo.

The exhibition had previously been displayed in Kabul, Afghanistan in September 2007 and Kathmandu, Nepal in December 2008. The Exhibition will be open to the public from 10.30 a.m. to 6.30 p.m. till the March 6, after which it will proceed to Kandy. It will be displayed at the E.L.Senanayake Children’s Library Hall from 10 am to 5 pm from 9 -11 March after which the exhibition will travel to Dhaka, Bangladesh.
