Slumdog Millionaire in town this April

By Nizla Naizer
Movie lovers and fans of the Oscar winning Slumdog Millionaire are in for a treat as Ceylon Theatres Limited has announced plans of bringing the movie to Majestic Cinema on the April 17.

“We will be running four shows of Slumdog Millionaire starting on the April 17,” Ceylon Theatres Limited, Publicity Manager Thusitha de Alwis told The Bottom Line. This British production filmed and based in Mumbai won eight Oscars at the Academy Awards this year including Best Picture, Best Director for Danny Boyle, Best Adapted Screenplay for Simon Beaufoy and Best Original Score and Song for A.R.Rahman. The movie is a rags to riches tale about an 18 year old boy from the slums of Mumbai who overcomes the odds to find his true love and become a millionaire through the ‘Who-Wants-to-be-a-Millionaire?’ show. It’s heartwarming and uplifting, and a brilliantly portrayed story which took the world by storm.

Majestic Cinema is currently running the Clint Eastwood movie, ‘The Challenging’ starring Angelina Jolie. The Changeling is a gripping story inspired by actual events set in 1920s Los Angeles. It’s the story of a mother whose young son is kidnapped and after months of frantic searching a boy is returned to her, claiming to be her son. Despite knowing that this boy isn’t hers, she lets the boy stay in her house and continues to fight for the truth about what happened to her son, putting her life on the line challenging a system which refuses to yield the truth. With more celluloid magic coming our way, The challenging will be replaced by Baz Luhrman’s epic ‘Australia’ on the March 27. The movie starring the beautiful Nicole Kidman and the gorgeous Hugh Jackman is a love story set in World War Two in Australia and revolves around the clashing of wills of two hard headed individuals. It’s the story of the beautiful aristocrat from England who travels down under to sell her estate ‘Faraway Downs’ only to fall in love with the rugged land and the even more rugged man who drives her cattle.
