The other day I was in the mood for a meal that was spicy, filling and fun; I didn’t want anything traditional, and I didn’t want any gravy. And where did my unusually pressing need for food lead to? ‘The Sandwich Factory’ at the Boulevard in ODEL; a gastronomical haven for western food lovers, where American style sandwiches are provided with a classic Sri Lankan touch.

The 'Sandwich Factory' as the name implies doles out sandwiches in 16 different styles and was the brainchild of Hisham Cader who had grown tired of the insufficient portions generally provided at local restaurants. “I was studying in the States and I got used to the American sized portions where the sandwich is so large and filling that you need to hold with both hands. So on the spur of the moment, I walked into my mom’s kitchen, made myself an American style sandwich and thought that I should let other people give it a try,” he explained. And the verdict? A loyal customer base of young and old alike who indulge in a 'Sandwich Factory' masterpieces whenever they’re in the mood for a fulfilling meal.
