Trinity-Anthonian: Gleanings from SACK
history
The 93rd Battle of the Blues annual cricket
encounter between Trinity and St Anthonys will
be held at the St Anthonys College grounds, Katugastota
on Friday and Saturday (March 13 and 14).
There will be a team photograph on Friday at 8.30am
followed by hoisting of the flags at 9am. Former St
Anthonys captain, CCC and Kandy CC cricketer Bernard
Perera will be the chief guest. Perera is best remembered
for scoring 155 in the Big Match of 1976
and being picked the Bata Schoolboy Cricketer of the
Year the same year. He is presently the senior provincial
coach for Sri Lanka Cricket. The match adjudicator will
be Aubrey Kuruppu.
The TCK-SACK annual cricket encounter began in 1914
and was played at the Bogambara grounds. The Anthonians,
who emerged as winners were lead by C. Seneviratne and
Trinity was lead by CE de Silva. SACK won by 42 runs.
From 2004 onwards this match was played for the John
Halangoda trophy. Late Halangoda coached St. Anthonys
College, and was a renowned cricket coach.
