Sampath Bank emerge Mercantile A
division cager champs
Nations Trust Bank was too brittle at the hands of fancied
Sampath Bank, as they thrashed them by 81 points to
50 in the A division final of the Mercantile
Services Basketball Association Super League tournament
sponsored for the seventh successive year by Delmege
Forsyth Group concluded under lights at the Otter AC
courts on Monday.
Sampath Bank had a commanding lead of 44/23 at the breather.
MK Shiran (28), Virantha Bastian (16), Thisara Chathuranga
(10), Mithila Abeysekera (20) and A. Vishwanath (12)
scored at will for Sampath Bank. Manjula Jayaratne (17)
was the top shooter for NTB.
Sampaths dynamic duo skipper Chamath Dhanawansa
(player of the final) and Mithila Abeysekera (player
of the tournament) carried away the special awards.
Twenty-eight teams participated.
In the B division final played earlier on,
unbeaten Dialog Telekom scored a convincing 87/79 win
over Union Assurance Ltd. Dialog led 42/38 at half-time.
The top shooters for Dialog were: Duke Rajapaksa (18),
Linal Ralston (16), Asela Perera (16) and skipper Mafaz
Mohideen (15). For UAL Aruna Wickramage (20), Chaminda
de Alwis (31) and Isuru Perera (15) played a tireless
game. Linal Ralston of Dialog was adjudged the most
outstanding player of the tournament.

of the tournament: Rukshika Wijesinghe of DPMC.

of Global Payments.
Mens D division: Avant Garde Security
Services B beat Softlogic 78/70; Player
of the tournament: Anuradha Amaratunge of Avant Garde
SS.
Mens C division: Avant Garde Security
Services A beat MAS Holdings 88/59; Player
of the tournament: Nushan Eranda of Avant Garde SS A.
At the post tournament awards presentation, Managing
Director, Delmege Forsyth Group Kosala Dissanayake was
the chief guest and the president, Delmege Forsyth Group
Sports Club and patron of MSBA, Lyle Peiris was the
guest of honour.
