A special parliamentary session will be convened today to discuss five monetary bills.
The decision was taken last week by party members at a meeting presided over by Speaker Lokubandara. Government representatives had strongly indicated the need to have the monetary bills presented by the Budget passed by parliament before April 1 as the fiscal year would begin officially then. Therefore they had called for a special session to meet this need.
The Ministers plan to debate and pass all five bills in parliament today. The order paper published on the parliament website also indicates that there will be discussions over the Chief Justice’s salary and other perks including entertainment allowance.
