With the introduction of the CIM Introductory Certificate in Marketing programme for Ordinary Level qualified students, The Institute expects to broaden opportunities for students in The Maldives to CIM qualification. The programme is designed to familiarise students with the basic principles of marketing and provide a fast track to the CIM qualification; and The Institute foresees a lot of potential given the latent demand for quality marketing education in the country.
Marking another important milestone, CIM Accreditation was conferred on Villa College in addition to the existing centre Focus Education Centre. Since the launch of the CIM programme in 2004, examinations have been conducted in The Maldives with the assistance of the British Council. However, as students underwent difficulties due to limited access to education facilities and study material, the establishment of two CIM Accredited Study Centres in The Maldives has met a long standing need of the market and will enable students to study for the CIM qualification in their home country.
Chitrangani Herat Gunaratne, Regional Director, South Asia and Vice Chairperson CIM Sri Lanka Region expressing her views on this event stated that since the launch of the CIM Member Group - The Maldives Chapter in May 2008, CIM Sri Lanka Region has been able to take several ground breaking steps towards promoting the CIM Qualification in the South Asia Region. She also stated that steps are under way to introduce the CIM qualification in Bangladesh and that the initial discussions with government officials and prospective study centers have been very positive.
The Chartered Institute of Marketing has over 50,000 members world-wide. The Institute provides a distinguished, internationally recognised marketing qualification which is delivered at over 430 study centres in over 80 countries worldwide. The CIM Member Group The Maldives Chapter is the first ever CIM Member Group in South Asia, administered by The Chartered Institute of Marketing Sri Lanka Region, the fastest growing CIM body, with over 1,150 members and 3,000 student members.
