Corruption has to be eliminated, the professionals should be brought to the forefront , the politicians should recede into the background. In today’s context each of these will be a monumental task- but perhaps we can begin by getting our direction right and taking a step at a time. In a prosperous Sri Lanka both groups can exist, even prosper. If the right professionals are put in charge and given the authority and incentives they WILL deliver and the country will prosper. The politicians will also prosper (they will be voted back) and the people will not have to suffer.
An impossible dream? I hope not. Look at Singapore how they developed from being a backwater nation to one of the most prosperous countries in the world-and with so few resources. From what I am aware even their drinking water is imported from Malaysia. And in SL we have 103 river systems not to mention an abundance of tanks and reservoirs. That’s just one example. How can we not succeed, maybe that is the question to ask.
