Where are we heading?
Our country is turning a new leaf in the pages of history and looking forward to a brighter future. The young generation must now get geared to take the country forward through literacy, education, knowledge, active thoughts, api wawamu rata nagamu etc, leaving the past behind but not forgotten.
We are also promoting a smoke free, drug free, alcohol free society by the elimination of public adverting of these products, editing smoking, consumption of alcohol on television etc. The country with the support of public, private, people and clergy are campaigning for the elimination of smoking considered a health hazard and reduction of consumption of alcohol. The entire population is paying by way of numerous levies to provide health care to addicts.I was disturbed, saddened by watching the movie produced by a TV channel based on dancing stars which is followed by young and old. The movie regarded as family entertainment is seen by parents along with children, some with grandparents and is supposed to be running house full in theatres around the country.
What is most disturbing in the movie although based on low income families living by canal banks is the identification of these people as drunkards, drug addicts and aimless heavy smokers. A fair percentage of the movie is based around a bar, smoke, drugs and drunkards. The movie features a singing star, who also smokes, consumes alcohol, acts as a drunkard, does nothing for a living, whereas in real life he does not smoke or consume alcohol as shown in the movie. Teens who see the movie will assume this to be the trend to become a singing star, be associated with a bar, alcohol, smoke and while away the time aimlessly.
How did the public performance board approve this film with so many smoking, drinking and scenes with many people under the influence of alcohol?
