St. Joseph’s cruised to the final of the under 19 division one limited-over tournament beating Maliyadeva, Kurunegala by 73 runs in the semi-finals played at the CCC grounds yesterday. Batting first, Josephians posed a formidable total of 222 with their captain Shameera Weerasinghe (63 with 4 fours) and Rosco Thattil (51with 4 fours, 1 six) adding a valuable 102 for the fourth wicket. Paceman Vimanga Perera had the impressive figures of 5 for 38. In reply Devans could only manage 149 off 38.2 overs as the Josephian pacie Chathuranga Kumara (4/37) and left-arm spinner Supeshala Jayathilaka (3/30) shared major honors defending the target.

Chamod’s century gives DSS semi-final berth
Chamod Wickremasinghe struck a rapid 104 not out off 94 balls to steer DS Senanayake to a 46-run win over Mahinda, Galle in their Under 19 division one quarterfinal match played at St. Peter’s College grounds yesterday. The match was restricted to 33 overs due to heavy overnight showers. Wickramasinghe smashed the Mahinda bowlers to all parts of the ground slamming two sixes and nine fours in his exciting knock which took his team to a challenging total of 232-6. With Harinda Udugama who made 55 off 41 balls (5 fours, 2 sixes), Wickremasinghe added 110 for the second wicket. Mahinda initially accepted the challenge of matching DSS’s total when Sachintha Kelumpriya and Ramesh Buddhika put on a quick-fire 98-run partnership for the second wicket. Kelumpriya struck five fours and two sixes in his aggressive knock of 52 off 46 balls while Buddhika hit 54 off 42 balls inclusive of two sixes and four fours. But after their departure Mahinda failed to maintain the momeutum and were eventually dismissed for 186 in the 31st over giving DS Senanayake a semi-final berth. They will meet St. Peter’s at the CCC grounds on Friday.
