Govt. in fresh push for
political solution

With the imminent ending of hostilities in the North the government yesterday gave its strongest indication yet that a political solution to the ethnic issue was in the offing.

CB urges banks to cut lending rates

In a tough stance, Central Bank yesterday said it has urged commercial banks to take ‘appropriate measures’ to reduce interest on lending activities.
The move apparently follows some commercial banks being slow to reduce lending rates thereby passing the benefit of favourable macro indicators to borrowers especially the private sector.
