MP Piyasiri Wijenayake remanded until May 13

Kalutara District National Freedom Front (NFF) Parliamentarian Piyasiri Wijenayake was arrested yesterday for the killing of Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) supporter Nandana Balage on April 5.
Police Spokesperson SSP Ranjith Gunasekera speaking to The Bottom Line said that MP Wijenayake was produced before Attanagalla Magistrate and was ordered to be remanded until May 13.
“Other suspects will be produced before the Magistrate, on Wednesday. MP Wijenayake was allowed to attend Parliamentary session on May 6 and 7.” SSP Ranjith Gunesekera said.
The JVP pointed the finger at the MP Wijenayake and NFF Western Provincial Council Candidate Kingsley Kasthuriarachchi for the death of Balage.
Nandana Balage- a full-time JVP cadre, succumbed to gun shot injuries while attending a Western PC election related meeting in the Gampaha electorate and was buried at the Mahaiyawa cemetery on April 09. (SF)
