Let’s salute our heroes

Through hardship and sacrifice the war heroes of our nation vanquished the LTTE, one of the most fearsome terror organisations on earth. Today morning in a colourful celebration presided over by President Mahinda Rajapaksa and the Commanders of the three forces a victory parade will be held at Galle Face as a tribute to them and to show gratitude to their incredible fortitude in winning a chance for a peaceful future.

Govt extends olive branch to UNP

On the eve of Victory Day celebrations, the government has extended an invitation to the main Opposition party UNP, to join in developing the country, assuring that an opening still remained for their support.
Insisting that the government’s top priority remained the resettlement of Internally Displaced People (IDPs) and the establishment of democracy in the North, Media Minister Lakshman Yapa Abeywardene reiterated the importance of a national effort, and urged for unity from Opposition ranks.

Banks are not impervious – Britto

DFCC Group Chairman Rajan Britto on Monday said that although many banks in Sri Lanka claim large profits, the banks are not impervious to the economic crisis affecting the economy.
“The number of Non-Performing Loans has increased and since consolidation of banks is not allowed in Sri Lanka, many banks are finding it difficult to grow alone.
