Lanka will meet
legitimate concerns of Tamils -Indian PM hopes

Declaring the Tamil problem as “larger than that of the LTTE”, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh today hoped that Sri Lanka would show courage in meeting their legitimate concerns.
“The Tamil problem is larger than that of the LTTE. We hope Sri Lanka will show imagination and courage in meeting the legitimate concerns and aspirations of Tamil people to live their lives as equal citizens and with dignity and self-respect,” he said at the Lok Sabha.
Singh was replying to the debate on a Motion of Thanks on the President’s address to the joint sitting of Parliament.
He said India has been taking an active part in the relief and rehabilitation of the internally displaced persons in Sri Lanka.
“I have already earmarked Rs. 500 crore for this purpose,” Singh said.
The government was willing to do more to restore normalcy and to return such people to their rightful homes and occupations, he said. (PTI)
