Thousand and one sushi- The Nihon bashi way
f watching what you eat is good for you then things can’t get much better than what Nihonbashi is offering to celebrate their 14th Anniversary. In fact you probably can’t find a more innovative concept for Sushi anywhere in the world.
For Dharshan Munidasa, founder of the most discerning Japanese restaurant in Sri Lanka, an anniversary celebration is the perfect opportunity to push boundaries and create something new. The result was a mind boggling variety of sushi that is custom-made for the palate, with ingredients selected by you.
A matrix of delicious proportions, Nihonbashi’s new sushi concept and menu found nowhere else in South Asia is sure to convert the ignorant. “Back in 2002, I introduced a 5x5x5 matrix sushi menu at our outlet at ODEL,” Dharshan explained, “And after seven years I have revamped it into a 10x10x10 matrix yielding 1000 combinations. The 1001st is yet to be named.”
The unique three element sushi matrix will offer diners the choice of ten items each under the ‘main’, ‘veg’ and ‘dressing’ categories and will be prepared a la minute. Since the sushi is mayo based, Dharshan leaves the menu as a non-raw sushi ensemble. Sushi which means rice in vinegar can be now combined to the diners’ choice with delicious elements of Teriyaki Chicken, Grilled Prawn, Crab Stick and Smoked Salmon, with vegetables such as Iceberg Lettuce, Baby Corn and Spring Onions along with Wasabi Mayo, Tabasco Mayo and Karashi Mayo as some of the dressing choices.
This is just the tip of a delicious iceberg, and diners can have an adventurous meal by trying out the various combinations according to their preference for Rs.250 Net each.
Nihonbashi’s commitment to perfection ensures that every meal at the restaurant is a treat to the senses and it is probably the only restaurant in the world to procure tuna whole from the docks where it is graded. This drive to procure the best ingredients sets Nihonbashi apart.
