GSK adjudged Best Supplier to SPC

GlaxoSmithKline Pharmaceuticals (GSK), the leading pharmaceuticals and vaccines company in Sri Lanka, has been adjudged Best Supplier–DHS Sector for 2008-09 at the annual Suppliers Convention of the State Pharmaceuticals Corporation (SPC).

GSK’s Sales, Administration and Service Manager Denzil Perera receives the award from Healthcare and Nutrition Minister Nimal Siripala De Silva

The award presented by Healthcare and Nutrition Minister Nimal Siripala De Silva is based on the company’s record in several key areas including timely supply, accurate quantities, value and responding to urgent orders.
GSK Pharmaceuticals Sri Lanka Managing Director Stuart Chapman said: “We are pleased by the acknowledgement of GSK as a reliable and responsible supplier to the State Pharmaceuticals Corporation, that is implicit in this award. In many parts of the world, GSK is an acknowledged benchmark for quality and ethical business practices, and Sri Lanka is no exception.”
GlaxoSmithKline has been doing business in Sri Lanka for over 55 years and set up one of the country’s first pharmaceuticals manufacturing plants in the late 1950s. The world’s leading pharmaceuticals and vaccines company, GSK operates in 114 countries. Globally, 1,100 prescriptions are written for GSK products every minute. In 2008 GSK Biologicals distributed 1.1 billion doses of vaccines in 176 countries, at an average of 3 million doses a day. GSK is also the only pharmaceuticals company to tackle the three “priority” diseases identified by the World Health Organisation (WHO): HIV/AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria.
Last year, GSK became one of the first companies to be awarded the new CommunityMark by the UK organisation Business in the Community (BITC). The Mark has been given to GSK for work at a local and national level in the UK as well as for larger international programmes. The CommunityMark recognises the best companies with regard to their investment in the community.
