Give me a chance says new Tourism Minister

Newly appointed Tourism Minster Nandana Gunethileke yesterday took over duties and pledged to promote local tourism, as the first phase of a short, medium and long-term recovery strategy.
He also called on the industry not to jump to hasty conclusions regarding his political past and unite with him to develop the Tourism Industry. Speaking at the ceremony he maintained that he would not focus on individuals in his development plan but would get the input of experts to assist in its compilation.
The Minister insisted that he would reveal the plan only when it was completed and denied any sneak previews to the media.
“I have been engaged in politics as part of the JVP and the NFF for the past 25 odd years. I have a deep understanding of the culture of this country and as a result I am confident that I can structure the working of the ministry to mirror this culture,” he said.
He also added that the misgivings of the industry were misplaced and that they should give him a chance to prove himself.
