Mobitel unveils its latest value offering
Sri Lanka Telecom Mobitel the National Mobile Service provider and the official sponsor of the Sri Lanka Cricket team launched a brand new tariff for the SMART Pre Paid customers offering them the freedom to talk longer and save more. This launch coincides with the Pakistan tour of Sri Lanka, where Mobitel has come forward as the title sponsor of the series.
This value innovative tariff plan is introduced at a time when most other customers are being hassled with activation fees, monthly rentals and claims of lower charges with per second billing – resulting in restrictive communication.
This innovative SMART Pre Paid tariff offers value to existing and potential SMART customers the ability to enjoy:
M Best Friend (MBF)
*Two Mobitel numbers as M Best Friend (MBF) numbers
*24 hours of the day outgoing (Voice/Video) calls to M Best Friend numbers at Rs. 1/- for the 1st minute, 75 cents for the 2nd minute and 50 cents per every minute thereafter
*SMS to M Best Friend numbers are at 25 cents per message
Other Mobitel Numbers
*24 hours of the day outgoing (Voice/Video) calls to Mobitel numbers - Rs. 2/- for the 1st minute, Rs.1.25 for the 2nd minute and 50 cents per every minute thereafter

In addition, this tariff plan will allow users the privilege of optional features such as SMART Freedom suite of services, SMART Bonus loyalty discounts and the latest 3G Delight.
Speaking at the launch of this latest SMART tariff plan, Suren J. Amarasekera, CEO, Sri Lanka Telecom Mobitel stated “This is the first time Sri Lankan mobile users can enjoy what we term as telescopic price plans which is offered without any activation fees or monthly rentals. Telescopic price plans enable customers to enjoy amplified value for talking longer.”
He further added, “That together with our recent mobile network enhancements, customers will be able to enjoy superior mobile network quality and services,”
“Mobile phones remain an essential communication tool for majority of Sri Lankans. Our customers can expect even more innovative services and products from us, as we constantly anticipate their mobile communication needs,” Amarasekera said.
Sri Lanka Telecom Mobitel, the National Mobile Service Provider, is a wholly owned subsidiary of Sri Lanka Telecom. In January 2004, the company launched its fully-fledged 2.5G GSM network that is EDGE/GPRS enabled and designed to operate on dual band. In December 2007, the company launched its 3.5G HSPA network – the first Super 3.5G network in South Asia. Investments committed to date in the 3.5G/2.5G networks and service offering amounts to over US$300 mn. The company plans to increase its number of base stations to 2000 by the end of 2009.
