| Land of the rising sun enriches Sigiriya splendour |

Former Japanese Prime Minister Yasuo Fukuda was here on a visit this week on invitation by the government to grace the opening of the new museum in Sigiriya. The new Sigiriya museum, which was declared open by President Mahinda Rajapaksa yesterday, was funded by the Japanese Government and built to reflect the archaeological wonders of Sigiriya. It also includes a pavilion dedicated to the famed frescoes. While in Sri Lanka, Fukuda will also meet with dignitaries to discuss matters of mutual interest between the two countries. Fukuda was Prime Minister of Japan from September 2007 to September 2008 |
