Salary hike storm brewing

Trouble is brewing in political ranks with the opposition lining up to demand for salary increases despite the government announcing that no salary hikes will be given for the rest of the year.
At a meeting with Union heads yesterday, Opposition Leader Ranil Wickremesinghe demanded that the Government clarify its stand on salary increments for government workers.

Plantation workers go slow today
Key trade unions backed by Ceylon Workers Congress (CWC), the UNP led National Estate Workers Union and the Joint Plantation Trade Union (JPTU) will initiate a work to rule campaign for plantation workers from today.
The decision was made following several failed rounds of talks with the Plantation Owners Association demanding a daily salary of Rs.500.

The Trans Asia Hotel took its place in the prestigious Cinnamon brand of hotels and resorts under the premier blue chip John Keells umbrella, opening its doors on Monday as the Cinnamon Lakeside Colombo. The hotel suffered some damage in the final LTTE airwing attack on February 20 at the adjoining Inland Revenue building. JKH used the opportunity to refurbish and rebrand the property with a Rs. 500 million investment.
