Jim Rogers upbeat on Lanka with whistle stop tour

Top investment guru Jim Rogers has expressed strong confidence on Sri Lanka’s future potential during his under raps whistle stop tour to the country last week.

Top investment guru Jim Rogers enjoys a cup of Ceylon tea during his meeting with Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) Chairman Udayasiri Kariyawasam in Colombo last week

During his visit on the invitation of the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) he met with its Chairman Udayasiri Kariyawasam and his team, Central Bank officials, several investment bankers, and a select blue chip companies.
Sources said that Rogers had wanted his visit away from the media blitz hence it was low key. “However he met relevant people to get information first hand,” they added.
At least his meeting with the SEC lasted more than an hour.
Of late Rogers has been an open proponent of Sri Lanka’s prospects following the end of the 30-year old war, with his comments flashed in all major news wires. His comments were also carried this week by Forbes India magazine.
It said Rogers now recommend Sri Lanka as the most compelling investment destination.
“I have seen that when a long war like this ends, there rise enormous opportunities for investment,” Rogers, co-founder of Quantum Fund and author of classics such as Investment Biker and Adventure Capitalist, had told Forbes India. “Sri Lanka will need to be rebuilt now and there’s little capital within the country.”
