SilkAir to take over S’pore-Penang services

From December 1, 2009, SilkAir, the regional wing of Singapore Airlines, will take over the operation of services between Singapore and Penang.
Singapore Airlines currently has a daily morning flight while SilkAir has twice-daily frequencies to Penang. By taking over the Singapore Airlines flight, SilkAir will serve Penang three times daily, with a morning frequency in addition to the current afternoon and evening frequencies. The flights are subject to regulatory approvals.
Having SilkAir on the Singapore-Penang route optimises the utilisation of the SIA Group’s resources and presents a better match of capacity to demand. With SilkAir, customers can rest assured that they will enjoy a level of warm cabin service and reliability synonymous with the SIA Group branding.
Rich in culture, history and heritage, Penang is one of Malaysia’s top tourist draws.
SilkAir also flies to four other cities in Malaysia, namely Kota Kinabalu (six times weekly), Kuching (three times weekly), Langkawi (six times weekly) and Kuala Lumpur (30 times weekly). Customers who have made advance bookings to fly the Singapore-Penang route on Singapore Airlines will be re-accommodated on SilkAir flights.
