Govt. goes for Vote on Account

The government decided to present a Vote on Account instead of a Budget at a special Cabinet Briefing held last night.
The decision comes after weeks of speculation that a Vote on Account would be presented as the government looks to crucial general and presidential elections early next year. Allegations have already been flying at the government from opposition ranks that the Vote on Account was adopted as a measure to escape from revealing the full extent of the government’s financial mismanagement. Finance Minister Ranjith Siyambalapitiya had told parliament that he was unaware of a pending Vote on Account decision and had assured that a Budget would be presented on November 7
