Leading optical services firm opens newest branch in Galle; plans to enter NE
Leading opticians Vision Care Optical Services (Pvt.) Ltd opened its newest branch in Galle yesterday at Magalle.
“The new premises, on the out skirts of Galle town have a spacious parking facility and anyone can come to buy spectacles at a relaxing atmosphere,” says Vision Care CEO Dasantha R. Fonseka.
The company is not only targeting the high end market segment. It has a range of products varying from the cheapest to the high ends inclusive of a collection of world renowned designer brands.
The Corporate Office at Ward Place has the entire range of eye related testing facilities including an eye care pharmacy and several other high tech testing facilities.
Vision Care Pvt. Ltd. Is the only ISO certified optical services company in the country and has a “Vision” to become a total Optical services company in the country.

Vision Care also has many “firsts” in the country which also include; Biometry (Eye scan for IOL’s), Visual Field Machines and the country’s first OCT,GDX,Pascal IOP,CCT machines.
The company already has several branches in and around Colombo and in few other towns around the country. It already has centres at the Asiri Central hospital, Crescat Boulevard, Norris Clinic and Sulaiman hospital while its corporate office cum an “optical Mall” is situated at no 6, Ward Place, Colombo 7.
In 1999, Vision Care opened its first branch out of Colombo, in Kurunegala, 119kms away from Colombo who will celebrate its 10th year anniversary next month.
Apart from Colombo centres Vision Care has branches now in Ratnapura, Wennapuwa, Jaela and Kurunagala.
“We have a vision of opening two branches a year,” he says.
In addition Vision Care also operates a Mobile optical service. A luxury bus converted as a mobile optical care service-one of its kind in the country.
The company hopes to open branches in all nine provinces.
“We target underserved areas,” Fonseka says.
Vision Care also has plans to open in Anuradhapura, Nuwara Eliya, Monaragala, Vavuniya, Mannar, Jaffna and Trinco too.
Dasantha who is one of the first to pass out as Ophthalmic Technologist in the country also has a Doctorate of Optometrist from the US.
Dasantha is also the Director of the Sri Lanka Optometrists Association.
Vision care is also seeking recognition from the World Council of Optometry.
The World Council of Optometry (WCO) is an international optometric organisation representing 250,000 optometrists from 80 member organisations in 45 countries. WCO IS the worldwide organisation for the professionals working in the field of optometry, their associations and institutions.
WCO is also recognised by the World Health Organisation (WHO).
“By 2010 we have the target of becoming the best eye-care centre in the whole of Southeast Asia,” says Fonseka.
