Since 1991, in a quiet corner of Horton Place, an enterprise committed to creating dazzling works of art through immaculately cut gems of every colour and intricately designed jewellery, has been satisfying individual tastes not only in Sri Lanka but across the globe.
Amaran Gems and Jewellery is a class apart when it comes to unique hand crafted jewellery. The in-house team of designers has been recruited from the brightest sparks of Moratuwa University and Chairman Amitha Gamage explained that the unique designs of every item of jewellery have been inspired by the environment of the designers themselves.
“I have told them to seek inspiration everywhere. From the elegance of nature to the current trends in fashion, our team of six designers backed by 15 craftsmen has the freedom to be creative,” he explained. The creations at Amaran move away from the traditional with a greater emphasis on the radiance of the gem stone and less focus on the weight of the gold. This has also ensured that at Amaran, you can find a range of designer jewellery starting from very affordable prices.
Their innovative evening wear collection in gold or silver starts at Rs.2500 while the breathtaking bridal wear collection starts at Rs.50 000. Gamage explained that although they aim to move away from the traditional at the end of the day it’s the customer’s needs that matter and several pieces of customized jewellery cleverly combined the two to emerge as a design of modernity blended with the charm of the conventional.
Gamage himself has vast experience in the gem and jewellery sector having been awarded the best gem cutter award in 1987. A certified member of the International Coloured Gemstone Association and a fellow member of the Gemological Association of Great Britain among others, he has been supplying beautifully cut stones of all hues to several markets abroad.
Apart from their jewellery line Amaran offers value add services of gem cutting, faceting any type of rough gem stones varying from precious Montana Sapphires to semi precious brittle ones such as Kunzite, sent by dealers all around the world. Amaran has now diversified into Sri Lankan, Australian and Madagascar rough Sapphires by using heat-treatment form “Geuda”. Taking advantage of nature’s bounty by providing Sri Lanka with these precious carbon formations Amaran offers fine quality Calibrated Blue, Pink, Yellow and White Sapphires to international markets along with eye-cleaned, well faceted fine quality free-size Blue Sapphires, Blue Star Sapphires, Star Ruby, Alexandrite, Cats eye, Chrysoberyl, Aquamarine, Spinel, Zircon and Garnet.
What’s more, Gamage knows the importance of a true diamond and Amaran now offers to test and grade your diamonds for free. So if you have wondered if the diamond on your finger was a VS or VVS in terms of clarity or a H,G or F in terms of colour, head over to Amaran at 5, Arunachalam Avenue, Horton Place and find out.
