Death toll rises in boat tragedy

Two more bodies have been spotted from the boat carrying Sri Lankan asylum seekers that sank on Sunday, with nearly all hope lost for another nine missing people.
A rescue ship carrying 27 survivors from the boat that sank near Cocos Island is expected to set sail for Christmas Island today.
The search seems likely to be scaled back today, although a decision had not been made last night. Yesterday the sea sweep involved two ships and eight aircraft.
The two bodies seen yesterday could not be recovered. The Croatian captain of the LNG Pioneer, carrying the survivors, also has on board the body of one man who died in the sea.
The boat that sank had 39 aboard, all male, and including two youths aged 13 and 14 who are missing.
At Christmas Island survivors will be given medical treatment, mental health support and grief counselling, and can make their asylum claims. (The Age)
